Announcements

Announcements Pages are a Google Site tool to provide a running list of news stories.

Each story post is created as a sub-page, however the most recent stories also appear on the main announcements page.  A website can have multiple different announcement sections, each with a distinct purpose.

Announcements are a bit like a blog, except there's one major difference, there isn't a useful way for visitors to comment.

In addition a widget object can be embedded on another page(s) of the site, as has been done on the Announcement Widget page.  In this way you can place a 'News Summary' on your home page using the widget while having the main announcements pages tucked away down in the site menu.

The examples below were extracted from a set of Community Events of family interest near Redwood City.  In the site where they were originally published, events also appeared on a 'Community Events' calendar, and the calendar was embedded in this top section and near the summary widget.

What is Splash?

Splash is a two-day weekend marathon of classes in a variety of subjects that are open to all students in grades 7-12. The classes students take are completely up to them, as the goal of Splash is to get them excited about learning and help them explore new topics.

Classes are taught by college students and local community members. The teachers create their own classes, which means every class will be led by someone excited about the topic. The classes are generally one to four hours long and may be lecture-style, hands-on, or discussion-based. The subject matter for classes ranges from casual hobbies to intensive academic subjects.

During the weekend of Splash, they have the Stanford Splash Parents’ Program available to the parents of Splash students. The Parents’ Program is a series of talks and sessions relating to Splash, your child’s education, and college admissions.

The next Splash is the weekend of April 12-13, 2014.

Student registration is now open

The class lottery phase is from 9:00 am March 10 to 11:59 pm on March 25.

The first-come-first-serve phase is from 9:00 am March 28 to 11:59 pm on April 7.
