This activity will walk you through the steps to create a basic website in about 5 minutes.

This is intentionally simple for now. We'll explore options later on. You'll continue working on this site during later exercises.
Create a Site
Starting on the sites.google.com page, click the ' Create' button.
On next screen, fill in:
- Name your Site - use the name of your Google account plus the suffix "-first" (e.g. bob1234@gmail would use "bob1234-first"). Note: every Google site must have a unique name, in addition Google reserves the names of all Google accounts specifically for use by each account holder. Since this is just a practice site, we append this a suffix.
- Select a Theme - choose 'Beige and Blue' in the third row (approx.) Theme illustrates distinct pages elements well.
- Everything else is optional, so we'll skip it for our first effort.
- Click the 'Create' button.
The site is created, and you are viewing the home page.
Edit the home page
Click the Edit Page button (a pencil Icon) to enter 'Edit Mode' where the word processor-like Editing Toolbar appears.
Type this text into the body field.
This is where I can experiment and learn.'
Later I'll use my new skills to plan, design and build a real site."
Click the Save button (top right).
Add a sub-page
Click the New Page button (+paper icon). On the next screen enter:
- Name your page - enter "Hello"
- Select a location - select "Put page under Home"
- Click Create
The new page is created and you are placed into edit mode.
Type "Hello World!" and click the Save button.
Add a third page
This page will be at the top level rather than a sub-page.
Click the New Page button (+paper icon). On the next screen enter:
- Name your page - enter "About"
- Click Create (the default is to create new pages at the top level)
- The new page is created and you are placed into edit mode.
Type: "Site created by <enter your name>.
I can access the workshop materials at: google-sites-training.raabfamily.net"
click the Save button.
Add a fourth page
This page will also be at the top level rather than a sub-page.
Click the New Page button (+paper icon). On the next screen enter:
- Name your page - enter "Text"
- Click Create (the default is to create new pages at the top level)
- The new page is created and you are placed into edit mode.
Type "Basic Skills Practice Area" and click the Save button.
